Why should be the Jockey not rubbed against potentiometer wire?

Jockey should not be rubbed against potentiometer wire as it will affect the cross sectional area of wire and hence final readings will get affected.

as when we rub the jockey against the wire then there is wear and tear of wire this affects the uniformity of the wire hence it give different reading from expected reading
