Why should magnesium ribbon be cleaned with sandpaper before burning?

Hello frnd!!

It is necessary to clean a magnesium ribbon before burning bcoz when magnesium ribbon is kept in open then it developes a thin layer of magnesium oxide which hinders in its burning. So we clean the magnesium ribbon in order to easily burn it!!!

#. Because it can have a layer of oxide on it which can interrupt in its complete burning that's why it is cleaned with sand paper.
