Oils and fats are one of the main culprits of blocked sewage lines and drains.

Overtime the liquid substances harden and form a layer which restricts water flow and causes blockage.

Even, in case of open drains the oils affect the porosity of the soil. They disturb the natural process of infiltration and they should not be released in drains.

Cooking oil and fats should not be thrown down the drain. They can harden and block the pipes. In an open drain the fats clog the soil pores reducing its effectiveness in filtering water.
