State governments should be given more powers to satisfy regional demands. State governments in India were established so that they could be more responsive towards local demands and aspirations. Such demands cannot usually be met by the central government because it is far away from most parts of India. The central government is also preoccupied with national issues. But if local aspirations are not met, this can lead to resentment and violence. To curb such tendencies, it is desirable that state governments are given more power to meet regional demands.
