the area of cross section of a wire in the meter bridge need to be uniform because if there is a change in the cross sectional area of the wire

Solution : The area of cross section of the meter bridge wire be uniform  so that there will be same resistance throughout the wire to get the accurate measurements.

  • A meter bridge also known as Wheatstone bridge is used to find the unknown resistance of the conductor , it works on the principal of Wheatstone bridge.
  • It is made up of wire of uniform cross section , the wire is either nichrome or manganin or constantan because these material offer high resistance and low temperature coefficient of resistance
  • Since resistance of the wire depends on the cross section of the wire , when the cross section of the wire is not uniform , the resistance will change in every point and we will not get accurate result
  • That's why area of cross section of meter bridge is uniform
