The light-dependent reaction must occur before the light-independent reaction because energized electron from the light-dependent reaction is needed in the light-independent reaction. Once the work of energized electron is done, it returns back to the site of light-dependent reaction to fetch more energy.

Light-dependent reaction and Light-independent reaction are two stages involved in the process of photosynthesis in green plants. The light-independent reaction is also called as Calvin Cycle.
