Why should the silkworms be killed by placing the cocoons in hot water

Silkworms should be killed because to take silk threads from them it's mandatory to kill them by placing them in hot water as they cannot bear hot water they will die in hot water. After their death we can take out the fine silk threads from their mouth which we need to pull out because they remain in a twisted position.
