When he was 21 years of age, he was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease that leaves a person totally paralysed, over a period of time. After losing his power of speech, he communicated using a special speech-generating device, using his hand. With the loss of control over his hand, he still operated the device using the muscle of his cheek. He used to move around, using a specially designed wheel chair.
Dr. Stephen Hawking (1942 – 2018) was one of the world’s most eminent theoretical physicist, cosmologist and writer. His theories and scientific work, which he propounded in spite of his physical disabilities, make him one of the most courageous human beings, the world has ever seen.
