During summer we perspire more because of the mechanism of our body which keeps us cool.We know that during evaporation, the particles at the surface of the liquid gain energy from the surroundings or body surface and change into heat energy equal to the latent heat of vaporisation is absorbed from the body leaving the body cool.Cotton, being a good absorber of water helps in absorbing the sweat and exposing it to the atmosphere for easy evaporation.

There are three main reasons for wearing cotton clothes in summer and they are :
1. Cotton allows better air circulation, which helps in absorbing and removing body moisture caused by sweat. It therefore minimizes fungal breeding by keeping your body dry and cool.
2. Cotton is light in weight and in colour unless it is dyed. Being light-coloured will help the light to pass through instead of being absorbed and hence we will not feel the heat as much. If you wear loose clothes instead of tight fitting clothes, there will be ample of space for the air to pass through.
3. Cotton helps in bringing down the severity of any allergic reaction and is perfect for those who have sensitive skin. Synthetic fabrics on the other hand cause rashes, skin allergies and body odour as they tend to trap moisture.
