Gold and silver are called noble metals as their reactivity with other metals are too low. This is because of the fact that they lie very low in the reactivity series of metals.

they do not, normally, react in their natural environment

Gold and silver are called noble metals because they don’t rust or corrode as easily as base metals when exposed to liquids and also they don’t combine with other elements as readily as do base metals.

Hope it helps!!
