Why soaps are biodegradable whereas detergents are non-biodegradable?

soaps are formed by alklye group ,fats and oils which can easily broken down into simple substance by microbes so they are called biodegradable whereas detergent are synthetic made by ammonium or sulfate salts of long chain carboxylic acids which can not be broken down by microbes so they are called non biodegradable
