Why sodium metal reacts with water to form sodium hydroxide and hydrogen gas while metal reacts with water to form metal oxide and hydrogen gas?

Sodium is more reactive than most other metals so it reacts with oxygen, and even hydrogen to form sodium hydroxide.

It even reacts with atmospheric gases.
