Insulin is a hormone that is produced by the pancrease and is used to control level of sugar in the blood. In patients of Diabetes type I, the person is unable to produce insulin due to which the blood sugar level cannot be controlled. In patients of Diabetes type II, body is unable to use insulin that is already present in the body due to which blood sugar level increases. So in these cases, insulin injections are prescribed that helps in moving sugar from blood to different tissues where it is used for the energy production. It also prevents production of sugar by liver and thus controls level of sugar in body.
