Your first clue is the the difference between typically male and typically female shapes. Higher Estrogen typical in females redirects most of the fat towards the breasts and the buttocks. Genetic tendencies for estrogen levels and estrogen receptor concentration likely do the rest. Additionally, genetics also plays an important role in metabolism which in turn affects size. People with slow metabolism who also eat more than they actually need will gain weight and where that weight goes is dictated by that estrogen/testosterone levels and receptors, BUT many experiencal factors can alter one’s metabolism so genetics is not the only predictor of weightgain/loss. Having an active childhood imprives metabolism in adulthood and maitaining an active lifestyle in adulthood also helps. The type of exercise you do can make weight maintenance easy. I always found that groups sports like football and basketball are the best. Your movements are natural, it is more fun because it is also a social activity and a competitive activity, and it is HIIT training which increases metobolic rate for the next 1 to 2 days. Finally muscle mass is sirectly proportional to how many calories you burn. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn, even just sitting down watching TV. And Big gluteal muscles add bulk to the buttocks.
