1⃣During the formation of the cocoon, The caterpillar or the larvae Secrets A gummy substance along with saliva in the form of thread, around its body. These gummy substance hardens to protect the Larvae forming into a butterfly or a moth inside it. Thus, When we boil the cocoon, The harden threads ( which got tied up with that sticky gum) Gets soften and Thread comes out.
2⃣A Pupa is a stage of A Silk moth or a butterfly. In this stage, The Insect present inside the cocoon hibernates and prepare itself to grow into a New adult butterfly.
