why sound travels faster in solid than in liquid

Solids are packed together tighterthan liquids and gases, hencesound travels fastest in solids. The distances in liquids are shorter than in gases, but longerthan in solids. ... Gases are the slowest because they are the least dense: the molecules in gases are very far apart, compared with solids and liquids.

Hey Mate

due to close spacing between atoms that make up the solid and which are force carriers through vibration.  However the sound speed is not same for all solids,. It varies depending on the type of bonding and the type atoms that make up the solid
