why sound waves travel faster in solid than liquid and in liquid than gas

The molecules in solid are more compact as compared to liquids. Thus sound waves move fastest in solid.

Similarly, molecules are more compact in liquids as compared to gases. Thus sound waves move faster in liquid than gas.
