Answer:

In froth floatation process, advantage is taken of prefferential wetting of ore particles by oil and gangue particles by water. ... Thus sulphide ore is present in oily froth whereas gangue particles settle at the bottom, and hence fuller concentration is achieved

Sulfur does not react with water. If you put the two together, the sulfur will float on the surface of the water or at best, the sulfur will get wet. The SO will then react with water to form HSO, sulfurous acid.

To prevent sulphur from burning.

1) sulphur is kept in oil cause sulphur is very reactive in the open atmosphere it catches fire very quickly by the reaction with oxygen so to prevent it from burning we have to kept in the oil.

2) But sulphur not kept in the water because in the water molecules of oxygen are present and as we discussed in the above point. That sulphur reacts with oxygen so to make it unreactive we don't kept it in the water.
