Aryabhatta was a great mathematician. He used the mathematic concepts in the field of astronomy. His book Aryabhatia published in 5th century deals with positioning of planets and also describes the spherical nature of earth. Due to his immense contribution in the field of astronomy he is called the father of Indian Astronomy. Notebly, India's 1st satellite was named after him.
