Answer: Ashoka gave up war because after the war of Kalinga thousands of people died, so he realised that war are not usefull as in war lot of money and lives get wasted. So to stop the wastage of money and lives, he gave up war. He also recognised dhamma, a policy or strategy of ashoka, he also taught or told his son about dhamma so that his son also can stay away from wars. For spreading the idea of dhamma he asked messengers and servants to spread it to distant lands and to write it in inscriptions respectively.
