That's because metals are sonorous and wood is not. It's for this reason that metals are used to make musical instruments and wood is rarely used. ...

The bells are made by metals instead of wood because -

• The metals have a unique physical property which is known as the sonorous property. Due to this property of the metals,a loud metallic sound is produced when we hit a piece of metal by any object.

• But,the wood doesn't have any kind of sonorous property and that's why when we hit wood by any object,a very dull sound is produced.

• For the, above mentioned explanation, the metals are used for making bells insted of wood. (Also, metal is much more durable than wood, which means a bell made by metal can tolerate more bell strikes than a wooden bell.)
