Now, fever or pyrexia comes under the physiological barrier. Physiological barriers like body temperature, pH and body secretions prevent growth of many invading pathogens.
When any pathogen invades our body, the body reacts by increasing its temperature.
When our body temperature is elevated, it inhibits further growth of many pathogens, as they are unable to reproduce at higher temperatures
Thus, fever is nothing but your body's way of protecting itself against the harmful pathogens.
TLDR ; the body temperature increases during a fever to inhibit further growth of the pathogens.
