Kanyakumari and Kashmir are located at different latitudes and at different locations from the equator. The day and night are nearly of the same duration at the equator but as we move away from the equator to the poles, the variations in duration of day and night become greater. Lengths of days and nights in the poles vary so greatly that they have a 6-month day(during summers) and a 6-month night(during winters). On the other hand, the equator has a fixed 12-hour day and night, and their lengths are not influenced by seasons. This is due to the fact that the Earth's axis is rotated.

Kashmir is at 37°N latitude, which means that it is 37 degrees away from the equator or it is 37 degrees away from the area which receives direct sunlight. This difference is of about 5hrs in Kashmir while as Kanyakumari is quite near the equator at 8°4N & the day-night difference is hardly one hour there. So, there is a big day-night difference in Kashmir while the duration of day and night is hardly felt at Kanyakumari.
