why the dna does not get doubled during sexual reproduction?

During sexual reproduction gametes fuse to form zygote. The gametes are formed by meiosis in which the amount of DNA is half than in somatic cells. When two haploid gametes fuse zygote is formed which is diploid. Thus, the amount of DNA remains same during sexual reproduction.
