why the electron gain enthalpy of nitrogen is less negative than oxygen????

ELECTRON GAIN ENTHALPY OF NITROGEN IS LESS NEGATIVE THAN OXYGEN BECAUSE:-

  1. NITROGEN HAS POSITIVE GAIN ENTHALPY WHEREAS OXYGEN HAS NEGATIVE GAIN ENTHALPY.
  2. OXYGEN HAS LOWER IONIZATION ENTHALPY THEN NITROGEN.
  3. NITROGEN HAS A STABLE CONFIGURATION WITH HALF FILLED 2p ORBITALS.
