Long chain fatty acids are taken up by enterocytes (absorptive cells in the gut), and reassembled into triglycerides, mainly in the smooth ER. A complex process packages the triglyceride droplets as chylomicrons, very large lipid carrying particles. They are secreted from the cell into the lymph, and eventually enter the general circulation through the thoracic duct.
