why the exchange of gases happens only in Alveoli though arteries are present in pharynx trachea and bronchus

exchange of gases takes place only in alveoli bcz walls of alveoli are very thin and richly supplied with blood vessels which makes exchange of gases easier. also balloon shape of alveoli provide more surface area for exchange of gases.
