Farmer of Bengal were unwilling to grow opium -

(1)The crop had to be grown on best land where they use to grow pulse.so,if they grow opium, then, they can't grow pulse.

(2)Many cultivators owned no land .To cultivate they have to pay rent and lease land from landlord.and rent on good land was very high.

(3)The cultivation of opium was difficult process.the farmer had to spent long time for nurturing it.they do not have enough time to care for other crops.

(4)The price the government paid to the cultivators for opium they produced was very low.

(5)Growing opium on same land make soil less fertile
