Why should food stuffs like chutneys, pickles and curd not be stored in containers made of metals?

Chutneys, pickles and curd contain acids, mainly lactic acid. This acid can react with the metal container, creating hydrogen and salts. These salts are very toxic, which can cause food poisoning, and this is why we are not supposed to put such food in metal containers
