why the forest are called the green lungs?

they give us oxgen and we obtain paper and rubber etc.

Plants(forests) provide oxygen which is very important for the survival of animals humans. it also absorbs carbon dioxide for its respiration and thus maintains balance between oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. it enhances the air quality and hence forests are called as green lungs.
