Why the head of a screw is made wider ?

Answer:

  • The moment arm is greater, hence the greater amount of torque you can apply to the screw head or what ever else you are twisting.
  • Better grip....more ergonomic....more surface area to grip for more torque
  • More torque=easier to turn.
