Because nichrome is an alloy which has high melting and boiling points also it's resistivity is high so it doesn't melt easily even when it is red hot.
When electricity is passed through nichrome wire so it produces a lot of heat which is required for such heating elements such as electric iron etc.

Because of following reasons :-

1. Nichrome is an Alloy which has higher resistivity than pure metal.

2. It has high melting point and does not burn readily or oxidise.
