In Rajasthan the houses have thick walls and flat roofs to act as a shield and a regulator against the extreme climatic conditions.

The thick walls owing to increased mass are capable of retaining heat better thereby keeping the indoors cooler during the day time when it’s extremely hot outside, and releases the captured heat during night time.

Flat roofs offer dual purpose, with smaller roof surface the heat gain is less and it also acts as a catchment to hold rain water and store it to the connected reservoir.
