why the indian modern period also called colonial period​

Modern period is referred to as colonial period.  Colonies are the countries under the control of other country. During modern time India was under the control of the British due to which it is known as colonial period .Also, there came about many changes during the britisher's rule over India. They brought changes in our traditional society, style of living etc.
