Passed by Lord Chelmsford the then Viceroy of India, the Rowlett Acts was a law. The following are the reason why the Indians were outrageous to the Rowlett Act of 1919:
1. The act authorized some legislative lawsuits to be heard without a customary tribunal and recognised internment of prisoners without trial.
2. The act limited the freedom of expression and expanded the authority of the police.
Consequently, this act faced great resistance from the people of India, under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, Mohammad Ali Jinnah and others.
