why the ionisation potential of M2+ is not very much greater than M+?

Ionisation potential means the energy required to remove an electron from its orbit. Hence the ionisation energy of 1st group elements in Greater than second group because after giving 1 electron it becomes stable where as the second group elements becomes stable after giving two electrons.
