The ionization energy of an element increases as one moves across a period in the periodic table because the electrons are held tighter by the higher effective nuclear charge.

Answer:Elements on the right side of the periodic table have a higher ionization energy because their valance shell is nearly filled.Elements on the left side of the  periodic table have low ionization energy becoz their willingness to loose e-s and become cation. so ionization energy increases across a period.
