Why the iron piece sinks but the ship of iron floats on water

Therefore immersed portion of the ship displaces water equal to its weight. So the ship floats whereas a sheet of iron is compact and there are no air spaces inside it. ... The density of nail (as of iron) is much larger than the water. So it sinks easily.

as we know the ship of iron has a lot of air filled in it which decreases the net density while iron piece does not have much a which keeps net density high also the surface area of ship is a lot more than that of an iron piece which also decreases the force acting per unit area on the water And hence water resistance also increases to the ship
