The new month each had 28 days but that didn't sit well with numa because even number were considered bad luck at that time. So, he added a day to January giving the year an odd numbered 355 days. But Feb was left and its was an roman fault and our new calendar is based on the old fault, confusion. It has a lengthy explanation, basically it is a mystery till now
