Why the number and size of human male gametes differs from the number and size of human female gametes?

It is an advantage to produce lots of gametes rather than a few. But production is costly, and could result in cutting down the size of individual gametes: males produce a lot of sperm, but each one is very small. In other words, the number of gametes produced is inversely proportional to gamete size.
