Why the number of chromosomes do not increase after fertilisation?

Because this a very controlled process, firstly the gametes are formed by meiotic division which reduces the chromosome no to half, now the n no of chromosome containing gametes fuses at the time of fertilisation to form 2n that is zygote, which further develops to form an organism which possess same 2n no of chromosome
