✡ the reason behind this is because C3O2 is a unique case / or we can say its an exception.

AND we know that ,

➡ the average oxidation state of carbon is

✔ 2+2+0/3 = 1.3

Oxidation number of C in C3O2 is 1.3

It is because the oxidation number of O is always -2.

Also, for a neutral compound, the sum of oxidation numbers of all the atoms is 0.

Let oxidation number of C is x. Therefore,

3*x + 2*(-2) = 0 (because C3O2 contains 3 C atoms and 2 O atoms)

3x - 4 = 0

3x = 4

x = 4/3

x = 1.3

Hence, the oxidation number of C in C3O2 is 1.3
