Answer:
A teenager is stereotyped as emotionally unstable, lazy, arrogant, rude, self absorbed and unhelpful.
For those teens clammering: “That’s not me”; congratulations on being atypical. But stereotypes are formed by a reflection of the majority, so the ‘hatred of teenagers’ stands in the eyes of most other age groups.
Teenagers are going to have a pretty tough time maturing no matter what demographic or geographic they live within. It basically comes down to a mix of physiology and sociology. A portrait of a teenager from the Middle East and another from Tibet will probably have a surprising number of similarities. Parents of both will describe the same complaints and judgments on their offspring. Hormones, rebelliousness, lack of respect.
Teen years are pure confusion. Challenging boundaries and beliefs is hardwired into your brain. You’re overwhelmed with the absorption and assimilation of other people’s opinions and expectations. You are exposed to a world that treats you as an adult before you’re ready, or conversely restricts you from adult rights that you yearn for. We commiserate with you but we don’t accept your complaints. We know you’ll probably live through it, learn your hard lessons, and carry on getting older.
“People hating teenagers” sounds like a highly subjective statement from a hurt teenager who is feeling underappreciated. Sure, as a middle aged man, living in a first world country, I do not seek out or enjoy associating with teenagers as they explore their rites of passage with no thought for others around them.
In a few years time, (too soon), you’ll understand what I’m saying. That point when you suddenly don’t feel the need to express yourself with the self restraint of a child and can’t stand to be around those that still do.
