Why the plains along bay of Bengal is wide and level and on the other side plains along Arabian sea is not?

The plains along the Bay of Bengal are wider and level but on the western side , plains along the Arabian sea is not . It is because the steep slopes of the Western Ghats end abruptly on the weatern coast . But whereas , on the eastern side there is a considerable distance between the Eastern Ghats and the eastern coastal plains so the plains are wider on this eastern side .
