Answer:

The reaction between acids and bases is called neutralisation bcz when acids react with bases they both neutralise each other to form salt.

Let's first define the important terminologies used here ..

Acids

A chemical species usually present in liquid form that basically accepts Electron and donates protons and is basically characterised by presence of H+ ion .

On the other hand ,

Base

A chemical specie that accepts proton and donates Electron and has the pH

value more than 7 .

Now the question arises what happens when both reacts ??

As we know on reaction involving acid and bases , salt and water is produced, now they both are neutral in nature..

So more or less the products formed are neutral in nature therefore we call this reaction as neutralization reaction.

In this reaction transfer of H+ ion occurs from acid to the base ..

Some examples :

Reaction involving acidic and basic components as reactants :

  • HCl + NaOH = NaCl + H2O
  • HBr + KOH = KBr + H2O
