why the reflecting surface must be 17 m away from direct sound source to produce echo. explain

Because speed of sound is 330m/s and in that distance the sound difference will gonna recognize by us or else if we are too close like 1 m speed of sound is 330m/s and the sound in exact time will reflect and will vibrate in our ear , so in 17m away , sound gonna take 1 sec to reflect because speed is 330m/s.
