why the sodium kept in kerosene

If sodium is kept open it will react with oxygen and catches fire.Hence to prevent accidental damage sodium is immersed in kerosene oil.

It is a highly reactive metal.If it is kept oitside and if it come in the contact of air so it will harm us and blast
