why the space beyond the earth's atmosphere appears dark???

JATINGHAI: we see when the light suffers reflection and refraction,since there is no atmosphere in space light is not refracted it just keep on travelling and we see only the light coming from the side of the sun but if we stand in the opposite direction to the sunrays than we see darkkkk. ok bye
