stomata allow carbon dioxide and loss of water due to evaporation. stomata is open during the day and close during the night. stomata is open during day because photosynthesis occurs .

The stomata closes and opens because it needs to allow the exchange of gases and also during the day time, the stomata gets open to take in carbon dioxide and it gets closed at night to resist the loss of water when the photosynthesis isn't happening during the night time.
