The Stone Age got this name because, in this age human learnt the use of stone is, for making caves. Stone Age is the period when life of humans was highly dependent on stones. For example, hunting stones, taking shelter in stone caves, creating fire from stones etc.

It is considered to be three phases, the Palaeolithic period, the Mid-Pala period and Neolithic period which extends from the beginning of human history (2.5 million years ago) to the Bronze Age.

The research of stone civilization was done by De Kera and Pieterson in 1935, according to which the development of human civilization took place in a very modern era. According to variation of stone equipment, it is divided into three parts

  • Lower Palaeolithic period (250000 - 100000 years ago)
  • Middle Palaeontology (100000 - 40000 years ago)
  • North Palaeolithic (40000-10000 years ago)
